Indiana Intellectual Property Law NewsEffective May 1, 2013, the civil case filing fee for the United States District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, will increase from $350 to $400, as approved by the Judicial Conference in its March 2013 session. This fee includes cases related patent, trademark, copyright or other intellectual property litigation. The fee increase does not apply to miscellaneous case filings, for which the fee remains $46.

Southern District Issues Notice of Amendment to Local Rules
Indianapolis IN – The United States District Court of the Southern District of Indiana has published a Notice of Amendment to Local Rules regarding all civil local rules. The Local Rules Advisory Committee has invited public 
comment concerning the proposed amendments through December 15, 2011.
The proposed amendment will replace the numbering system of the rules, but leaves the local rules largely substantively unchanged. The Northern District of Indiana has recently released similar proposed local rule changes, which Indiana Intellectual Property Law and News has blogged.

Denise K. LaRue Sworn as New Magistrate for the Southern District of Indiana
Indianapolis – Denise K. LaRue, an Indianapolis attorney, was sworn in as the new magistrate judge for the Southern District of Indiana. Chief Judge Richard L. Young administered the oath of office to Ms. LaRue at the Birch Bayh federal building and courthouse in Indianapolis. A more formal ceremony will take place at a later date. Ms. LaRue takes office as the first to fill a newly created magistrate judgeship in the Southern District of Indiana.
Ms. LaRue formerly practiced at Haskins LaRue, an Indianapolis law firm specializing in employment issues. She was born in Indianapolis and graduated cum laude from Indiana University School of Law – Indianapolis. According to the court’s press release, most of her professional experience has been in the area of labor and employment litigation.
