SOUTH BEND, Indiana (July 17, 2023): The United States District Court for the Northern District
of Indiana announces it is now under the leadership of a new chief judge. Effective July 17, 2023,
the Honorable Holly A. Brady became responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the
court and handling various administrative matters. The chief judge is assigned based on seniority
and other factors, as set forth in 28 U.S.C. § 136.
Judge Brady was appointed by President Donald Trump and confirmed on April 10, 2019. She
filled the vacancy created by the senior status of Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen. Judge Brady is a
graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law (J.D., 1994) and Indiana University Bloomington
(B.A., 1991). Prior to her appointment as a federal district judge, Judge Brady had engaged in the
private practice of law. She began her law career as an associate at Gallucci, Hopkins & Theisen,
P.C. (1994-1998), which then merged with Barnes & Thornburg LLP in 1998. She later joined
Theisen Bowers & Brady, LLC (2002-2007) and Haller & Colvin, P.C. (2007-2019), where she
was named partner (2007), then became a managing partner (2009), and also served as firm
president from 2012-2018. She also has been active in the Allen County Bar Association and has
served as a board member for the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center and the Northern
District of Indiana Federal Community Defenders and as president of the American Inns of Court,
Benjamin Harrison Chapter.
Chief Judge Brady succeeds the Honorable Jon E. DeGuilio. Judge DeGuilio took senior status on
July 17, 2023, after having served the court as chief judge since June 1, 2020. Judge DeGuilio’s
stalwart leadership during his chief judge term included, among other things, his exemplary
navigation of the challenges faced by the court during the national emergency, as well as several
changes in leadership.
